Food Service Training

Professional training to support food service staff and school meal programs.

Healthy eating at school begins in the cafeteria. Professional development trainings empower food service staff to support school meal programs and promote access to healthy foods in schools.

Healthy Eating Made Easier: Plan Your Plate Training

The Healthy Eating Made Easier: Plan Your Plate training is a 30- to 45-minute session that discusses the importance of learning about and promoting nutrition in the cafeteria. Designed for front line cafeteria staff, the training presents easy-to-remember strategies that can assist staff in encouraging healthy eating patterns. It discusses ways the cafeteria impacts the health and wellness of students and communities and covers specific actions that will make a difference for students on their journey to wellness.

Topics covered in the training include:

  • Why is nutrition important?
  • What is a healthy eating pattern?
  • Nutritional differences in beverage choices.
  • Why milk and dairy foods matter in school meals.
  • Ways to encourage students to make healthy choices.
