Sonia Fernandez is the Community Nutrition Adviser for Sacramento and the greater Northern California area, where she supports and creates nutrition-driven programs and resources for the school and community environment to educate on the importance of healthy eating patterns, as well as supports food access programs and initiatives that enable all children to access the nutritious foods they need for optimal growth and development and lifelong health.
In her role, Sonia builds relationships and collaborative opportunities with key influencers across the Northern California region, which includes educators, school food service professionals, school leadership, health professionals and community leaders, to prioritize and elevate the health of children and families through nutrition.
Her engagement with regional and statewide collaboratives, Smarter Lunchrooms Movement of California and the California Local School Wellness Policy Collaboratives provide invaluable expertise and insight to further the school wellness environment and foster healthy habits in children and families.
Sonia earned a M.A. in Teaching from National University, Sacramento and a B.S. in Nutrition and Food Science with an emphasis in General Dietetics from California State University, Chico
