Dairy Council of California creates materials, resources and free lesson plans for making balanced food choices. Our nutrition and education philosophies shape our offerings and help us carry out our cause:
To elevate the health of children and parents in California through the pursuit of lifelong healthy eating habits.
We believe in making healthy eating easier by:
- applying knowledge and skills through education to enable nutritious food choices
- supporting food access
- amplifying the health benefits of milk and dairy foods
- utilizing consensus science
- assuring that all food and beverage choices matter
We work on behalf of California dairy farm families and local milk processors to provide free nutrition education resources to California school children and their families. Our staff include registered dietitian nutritionists, nutrition, education and communication experts and customer relations professionals who partner with educators, health and wellness providers and community leaders to teach how to make the best food choices from a realistic and inclusive perspective.
Dairy Council of California is solely funded by California’s dairy farm families and milk processors. We are a "state government entity" overseen by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
Dairy Council of California has a long history of serving California communities through nutrition education. In the 1920s and 30s, children were suffering from nutritional deficiencies, such as rickets. We partnered with schools and teachers to bring milk to school lunches and offered free nutrition education materials to help overcome those nutrition gaps. We have continued to partner with schools to help create healthier students throughout our history.
