A simple dish for the crockpot.
2 cups chopped Broccoli florets4 slices firm white Bread, one-half inch thick4 teaspoons Butter1 1-2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese3 Eggs1 1-2 cups reduced-fat Milk1/2 teaspoon Salt1/2 teaspoon hot Pepper sauce1/8 teaspoon black Pepper
Cook broccoli in boiling water 10 minutes or until tender. Drain. Spread one side of each bread slice with 1 teaspoon butter.Arrange 2 slices bread, butter side up in greased 1-quart casserole. Layer cheese, broccoli, and remaining 2 bread slices, butter side down. Beat together eggs, milk, salt, hot pepper sauce and pepper in medium bowl. Gradually pour over bread. Place small wire rack in 5-quart slow cooker. Pour in 1 cup water. place casserole on rack. Cover and cook on high 3 hours in crock pot.
Reduce or omit the added salt and use unsalted butter to lower the sodium in this dish.Reduce the amount of fat in this dish by using reduced-fat cheddar cheese and low-fat or fat-free milk.
